What Is Webcor?
Webcor is a company that builds commercial buildings. Its main office is in San Francisco, California. The company also has offices in Alameda, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose, and Hawaii. It is one of the biggest builders in California, with clients like Google, Apple Computers, Samsung, Genentech, Brookfield Properties, University of California, Oracle Corporation, The California Academy of Sciences, eBay, and Electronic Arts. Since 2007, it has been a part of Obayashi.
Webcor has built or is building a lot of important projects in California. The project to replace the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park was featured on the Discovery Channel’s Extreme Engineering show. In the company’s portfolio, there are:
Bill Wilson, Ross Edwards, Dave Boyd, and Miller Ream started Webcor in 1971 in San Mateo, California. The CO stands for “company,” which is where the name came from. Ross Edwards and Dave Boyd would take turns being President and CEO for the whole time they were in charge.
Webcor’s first project, POP1, was built in San Mateo in 1972.
Rich Lamb was hired in 1985 to lead self-performed interior construction. He went on to become the COO and retired at the end of 2014. His work would eventually help Webcor’s reputation as a general contractor that does its own work.
